Planting Rice Song
In January we plant new seedlings,breeze ripples the water
Call out to each other to eat some snacks,sweet mixed with banter
In Feburay noisy frogs fill the fields,green sprouts wave at the clouds
We bring water to soak them,so the roots burrow deep in the ground
In March the plants are pregnant with grain,rice flowers open in late
morning
Rains stunt the sprous,and magpies come though we shoo them away
In April plants droop with the grain,now on firm ground,they joyfully sway
We burn incense,bowing our thanks to Uncle Earth, and worry about
How much the grain will be worth
田植歌
一月に種まけば、風は吹き水面揺れ
声かけておやつの時間、汗もまた笑いのたね
二月の田んぼは蛙の天下、青い苗が雲を突く
水を引き苗浸せば、根っこは深く田に沈む
三月には実がつき始め、稲の花真昼に開く
大雨にやられなかったか、降り止めばまた
四月にはコウベ溝に垂れ、穂を踏む楽しさよ
土地神様にお礼をすませたら、米を売る悩み
