Cross-post from AsiaWind's Hakka Forum:

Supplementary to the wordings:

Man-made channels of water had been built more than 2000 years ago; the ZhengGuo Canal ~{V#9zG~~} near Baoji City, ShaanXi is a typical historical landmark of the irrigation system at that time. The tradition of water and pasture seeking has been set firmly in Hakkas minds since then. In todays Hakka villages, ravines ~{='~} with water running from the higher part of the meander to the lower part of the meander can always be found. These ravines usually pass through the middle of a village and are used for general washing and irrigation purposes. For household and drinking usage, wells are the cleaner sources of water.

A bit of geography here:
Ting Jiang ~{M!=-~}, Mei Jiang ~{C7=-~}, and Mei Tam He ~{C7L6:S~} meet at a place called Three River Dam ~{H}:S0S~}and become Han Jiang ~{:+=-~}while the river flows southward into the South China Sea. While Ting Jiang sources near Shi Bi village ~{J/1ZOg~}passes by YongDing Xian's capital ~{S@6(OX~}; Mei Jiang flows around the capital of MeiXian ~{C7OX~}and the Mei Tan He flows around the capital of TaipuXian ~{4sFROX~}which was a typical Hakka village built on the inside of a meander.

However, today's TaipuXian capital is a modern city with four star hotels and the comforts of modern facilities and livings. A small airport is being built in the city too. These three rivers are really the Mother Rivers of Hakkas; especially around the source of and along Ting Jiang where the Hakkas have been migrating from about 700 or 800 years ago during the South Sung Dynasty, i.e., during the Third Major Migration. Many Hakkas in South East Asia were originated from these areas during the last 150 years.

More video is coming when I have time to convert them to asf(mpeg4) format.
