Legion of Honour awarded to Ari Wong Kim, last Tahitian survivor of the Pacific Battalion
He is the last Tahitian survivor of the Pacific Battalion. The Tahitian Ari Wong kim had committed at the age of 16 to go fight in France hexagonal. At the age of 96, he was awarded the Legion of Honour on 17 September 2020.
At the age of 16, Ari Wong Kim impersonated his brother to leave Tahiti in 1941 and fight in the Pacific Battalion in the Libyan desert, Italy and France. He is the ultimate Tahitian survivor of the mythical Pacific Battalion.
At the age of 96, he received the Legion of Honour in Normandy on Thursday, September 17. The decoration was given to him by the son of the one who was the command of the battalion, Felix Broche. Watch the 1st Overseas Report:
