On the Shifting of Hakka Diaspora Paradigm
ABSTRACT
After reviewing briefly on the migratory Hakka People to the hilly terrain of Jian Xi, Fu Jian, and Guang Dong triangle, the means and ends of this Diaspora are exemplify by the water and pasture seeking and the searching for perfectionism respectively. The former is the basic living needs for survival and the later is an eternity that helps shape the quality of life of a Hakka. Nonetheless, the later also makes Hakka People stubborn in certain aspects. This kind of paradigm persisted for couple of generations when Hakka People migrated to South-East Asia and Indo-China few hundred year ago; some had migrated even farther, to the east coast of southern African continent. With the advance of communication technology, the globe has shrunk to a point. Distance does not bear any significant role on the Hakka Diaspora Paradigm anymore. In this paper, the questions of where, what and how the Hakka Diaspora Paradigm would be shifting are investigated. When? Is the easiest question. It is happening now. With close to 200 members on the Hakka Global Network抯 mailing list and a dozen or so Hakka related homepages on the Internet抯 World Wide Web, the Hakka Diaspora Paradigm is elucidating within a point. By answering these questions, we try to conclude that the Hakka Diaspora Paradigm is the paradigm that will improve the quality of life with the help of science and technologies. It is the search for this perfectionism that gives Hakka Diaspora Paradigm an winning edge on many aspects; like culture, education, ethics, foods, entertainment (mountain songs) etc...
