Hakka Festival blossoms with flowers
The 2004 Tung Blossom of Hakka Festival (年客家桐花季) is just around the corner, it’s going to be unveiled during mid-April in Miaoli County. His hands guiding the shape of the clay into what will be a lunchbox, the artist uses his tools to give it its shape. What follows next is applying the shape of a flower from the tung oil tree. And here just like that this limited edition of 200 is finished. There are also other tableware that has the flower of the tung tree on it. Every set of the tableware are just absolutely beautiful with the flower on it. It’s hoped Miaoli’s annual Tung Blossom of Hakka Festival has a different air to it with the addition of the tung flower.
Miaoli Pottery kiln Hsieh Hung-da (謝鴻達) said, “What’s special about this lunchbox is that it’s completely handmade and the flower on top of it is carved right in. Customers when buying this can, say if there is a Hakkanese dish inside of it, once customers finish eating can also bring the whole thing home.”
The quick hands of the pottery artist offer tourists a one of a kind creation so that they may bring home to remember their beautiful visit to Miaoli for years to come. Here Miaoli’s tung flower festival has been combined with the central part of Taiwan, including that of Taoyuan and Hsinchu. It’s hoped the Hakka flower festival will be able to radiantly shine the beauty of its local areas, so tourists may catch a glimpse how beautiful it really is.
