Hakka food rich in flavour

WELGAMED Hakka Food Restaurant brings back memories of a unique group of people.
Deep Fried Ribs and Pineapple are served in a hollowed pineapple.

The Hakka are not an ethnic minority. They are Han people who moved from North China to the hills and mountains of the South over a long historic period from the Qin (221-206 BC) to the Song (960-1279) dynasties.

Self-identified as Hakka, or guest people, these Han immigrants have retained much of their ancestors' lifestyle and culture. Further, these people have absorbed the best of the cultures of other ethnic groups.

This tradition is reflected in Hakka food, which emphasizes original flavours and nutritional value rather than a brilliant appearance. It lures customers with its solid material.

The Welgamed Hakka Food Restaurant in Lippo Plaza may not be a great representative of the cuisine, but the varied choices on the menu and luscious flavour have brought my pals and I back there to eat five times in the last two months.

Deep Fried Ribs and Pineapple is served in a hollowed pineapple. Matching the good presentation, the ribs are soft and rich in flavour.

Hakka Three Treasures - a mainly vegetable dish of tofu, bell pepper and balsam pear stuffed with ground pork, deserves its name for its unique style and abundant flavour.

Hakka people are good at making tofu dishes, since tofu for quite a long time was the main source of their protein. At Welgamed, several other Hakka style tofu dishes are also available, all very tasty.

Deep Fried Chicken, Pork Large Intestines are also popular Hakka dishes served at the restaurant. They are delicious and not oily.

Several Hakka style soups stewed for hours with Chinese herbs are supposed to have different health benefits, but usually cost 20 to 30 yuan per person.

Without these wonderful soups, dinner for four people costs between 200 yuan and 300 yuan.

客家菜原汁原味的特色还是概括了。

Several Hakka style soups stewed for hours with Chinese herbs are supposed to have different health benefits, but usually cost 20 to 30 yuan per person.
客家汤以药材汤为特色也讲得过去。不过不是头牌汤。

Deep Fried Ribs and Pineapple 菠萝排骨(我认为不是客家菜)
Hakka Three Treasures (酿三宝,不过不应该是酿豆腐辣椒苦瓜)
Deep Fried Chicken(盐焗鸡??)
Pork Large Intestines (姜丝炒大肠)
